Book: Bush Administration Manipulated & Mocked Evangelicals

October 13th, 2006 by

This comes as absolutely no suprise to me. A former top official from Bush’s own faith-based initiatives program, David Kuo, asserts in his new book "," that Bush’s "top political advisors privately ridiculed evangelical supporters as ‘nuts’ and ‘goofy’ while embracing them in public and using their votes
to help win elections," .

The attitude of Bush’s political advisors is entirely in keeping with those of the conservative political operatives I know, who have openly admitted to me that they specifically use wedge-issues to rile up the "looneys", as they call the evangelicals in their party.

The following is a clip from MSNBC’s , in which Olbermann reads several passages from the embargoed book that detail the extent to which the Bush administration manipulated Christians and to which they turned their ostensibly non-partisan faith-based initiative program in to a politcal operation. It was, according to Kuo’s book, so thoroughly partisan that non-Christian groups seeking federal grants from the program essentially need not apply. From Hybrideb at :
