Friends Of God Trailer

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

is currently playing on HBO. It’s a documentary by , daughter of House Speaker , about American evangelican Christians and their influence in our country. It’s a remarkable piece of work. I recommend it highly:

"Refuting" Evolution

It absolutely stuns me that seemingly completely rational people will argue with all sincerity that dinosaurs lived alongside men–not 65 million years ago but a mere few thousand years ago–because of one passage of scripture that could just as easily describe an elephant.

Sex, Sex, Sex, Sex, Sex, That’s All You Think About

I think evangelical’s obession with sex-related topics–abortion, pre-marital sex, gay sex–belies a fear of the subject. That might explain the s of the world: Virulently anti-gay while at the same time hiring a male prosititute. This is a clip of Haggard from the documentary:

Tone Deaf Hillary Clinton Sings National Anthem

surely did not know that the microphone would be isolated on her during the and maybe her voice was raw from campaigning all day or maybe she’s just plain tone deaf but she most certainly wouldn’t have sung this badly if she’d known her performance would end up online. Super Bowl Shuffle – The 1985 Bears

First of all, I’m not a fan; this year’s team, especially. The Bears are not a Super team by a long stretch, but you gotta hand it to them because they just kept winning games they should’ve lost on their way to this year’s Super Bowl.

The last time they made an appearance in the big game was 1985. That team was overflowing with talent and it showed when they demolished the in , forty-six to ten, in one of the most boring Super Bowls ever played. The most memorable thing about that game was that defensive lineman scored on a touchdown run as a fullback but one of the greatest running backs ever to play the game, the late , did not get a chance to score.

The Bears’ talent off the field, though, was dubious:

Walter Payton Highlights

Walter Payton had a breath-taking combination of power, speed, quickness, agility, elusiveness, and vision that was absolutely brutal for fans such as myself because we had to face him twice a year.

Da Bears

The ’85 team had such a personality and so many characters on it, that it and their fans became a part of the culture, largely through a recurring skit on featuring , , and the late :
