This video, , was directed by and stars dancing away. The cognitive dissonance created by the conflicting idea of Christopher Walken dancing to a hip hop song results in a great, amusing music video:

  1. Walker Says:

By “cognitive dissonance” I assume you mean the gap between what you thought you knew and actual reality?

Walken danced on Broadway and in 1990 he starred in “The King of New York” with Larry Fishburne and Wesley Snipes, a stylish and violent movie with Walken as a drug lord fresh out of prison. He’s cool, he kills and in one improvised scene he even dances. While you were sipping merlot in the suburbs that year, that movie and that scene made Walken the coolest white man in America, albeit in circles you probably avoid. So small wonder that Walken is somebody Fatboy Slim would not find amusingly dischordant in that video.

On the bright side if you didn’t go to college you’d have had to admit to plain old fashioned ignorance.

Could somebody pass that guy a suppository?

Walken’s great in the vid…no doubt about that…but the supposed cognitive dissonance was in reference to the percipients, and not Fatboy Slim. Clearly Walken was portraying some sort of travelling businessman, who in a moment of reverie gets caught up in “Weapon of Choice”. The public reacted beyond what Spike Jonze could have hoped for…and that video and song got far wider play than they might have otherwise.
