Winter Rainbow A.K.A Sun Dogs

I have never seen these before in my life–in all of my years living in Minnesota–but last week I twice saw what I was calling but what are popularly known as sun dogs and as a parhelion by its scientific name. Sun Dogs occur in the morning when the sun is low on the horizon and the ice crystals contained in cirrus or cirrostratus clouds reflect or refract the sunlight. Behold:
