Robert F. Kennedy Announces The Death Of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Monday, January 18th, 2010

On April 4, 1968, during his presidential campaign, Robert F. Kennedy visited Indianapolis, Indiana. As he prepared to enter the speaker’s stand (a podium set on a flatbed trailer), he learned of the death of Civil Rights leader, Martin Luther King, Jr. His prepared speech no longer relevant, he commiserated with the inner-city crowd, calling for reconciliation instead of violence. Although there were over fifty riots after King’s death, there were none in Indianapolis, which is mainly credited to Bobby Kennedy’s speech. Found at YouTube from mortyfinkle.
