Darryl Stingley Dies At 55

Former start New England Patriots wide receiver has died at 55 years of age. Stingley was hit viciously by of the Oakland Raiders in an exhibition season game in 1978. The hit paralyzed Stingley from the neck down. He was 26 years old at the time.

I remember the game and, being a fan, I had every reason to hate the Raiders. It was the very same Jack Tatum who had popped Vikings receiver ‘s helmet off the previous year in .

Tatum never apologized for the hit and, after his career was over, wrote a trilogy of best-selling books, They Call Me The Assassin, They Still Call Me The Assassin, and Final Confessions of NFL Assassin Jack Tatum.

Super Bowl Shuffle – The 1985 Bears

First of all, I’m not a fan; this year’s team, especially. The Bears are not a Super team by a long stretch, but you gotta hand it to them because they just kept winning games they should’ve lost on their way to this year’s Super Bowl.

The last time they made an appearance in the big game was 1985. That team was overflowing with talent and it showed when they demolished the in , forty-six to ten, in one of the most boring Super Bowls ever played. The most memorable thing about that game was that defensive lineman scored on a touchdown run as a fullback but one of the greatest running backs ever to play the game, the late , did not get a chance to score.
